Malnutrition is a Medical Emergency

op Medecins Sans Frontieres Australia

“When you hold a starving baby in your hands, you feel how fragile life is.”

– Claire Manera, MSF Emergency Coordinator

Right now, children are dying from malnutrition and preventable diseases. These are escalating crises in multiple countries – driven by conflict, aid blockades, and crippling humanitarian funding cuts. Despite the critical needs, funding cuts have left enormous gaps in humanitarian assistance.

Malnutrition is a medical emergency. Children weakened by hunger cannot fight off common infections like pneumonia or diarrhoea. For those who do survive, prolonged lack of nutrients leaves irreversible, lifelong impacts, stunting their growth and slowing brain development. This is why it’s imperative that we’re able to intervene when a patient presents with early signs of malnutrition.

With ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF), and medical monitoring, even children with severe acute malnutrition, without complications, can recover in just two months. But only if we reach them in time.

Please help deliver that vital lifeline now.
